Sous une corniche à ressauts, un dragon surgit du bois : tête barbue, gueule ouverte, cou arqué, aile déployée en feuille d'acanthe et queue enroulée en volute. Le fond, finement piqueté, fait ressortir le relief. Sur le flanc, une grande console en S porte des enroulements de feuillage. L'ensemble repose sur une base moulurée, large et profonde, qui lui donne l'allure d'un piédestal. Le bois, d'un brun chaud, porte des griffures et des fentes aux assemblages, tandis que les moulures saillantes accrochent un lustre discret.

Beneath a stepped cornice, a dragon breaks out of the wood: bearded head, open jaws, arched neck, a wing spread like an acanthus leaf and a tail coiled into a volute. The finely stippled ground sets the relief forward. On the side, a large S-shaped console carries scrolls of foliage. The whole rests on a broad, deep moulded base that gives it the bearing of a pedestal. The wood, a warm brown, shows scratches and open joints, while the projecting mouldings catch a quiet sheen.

The dealer places it within the Gothic Revival, the movement born in Britain in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, of which Strawberry Hill, begun in 1749, is a landmark. In the first half of the nineteenth century it spread across Europe, and Belgium retains examples.
