Horloge en céramique aux porteurs de raisin, vers 1960

Sur une plaque cintrée au grain sablé, deux hommes en chapeau portent à l'épaule une perche où pend une grappe énorme, sous une feuille de vigne et un soleil à visage humain. Le trait, incisé en hachures serrées, cerne des aplats d'ocre jaune, de vert et de brun. Le cadran s'inscrit au milieu de la scène, chiffres disposés en rayons, aiguilles noires et trotteuse rouge. En bas à droite se lit l'inscription R. Capron. Un petit chevalet maintient la plaque debout.

Roger Capron, né en 1922 et mort en 2006, arrive à Vallauris en 1946 et y cofonde l'atelier Callis. En 1952, il achète sa propre poterie ; cinq ans plus tard, plus de quarante artisans y travaillent. Il crée ensuite les carreaux Navettes en 1961, puis les Planètes en 1965. Des horloges murales en grès incisé et émaillé portant sa signature circulent sur le marché, à des formats voisins de celui-ci. On an arched plaque with a sandy, speckled grain, two men in hats shoulder a pole from which hangs an enormous bunch of grapes, beneath a vine leaf and a sun with a human face. The line, incised in close hatching, rings flat areas of ochre yellow, green and brown. The dial sits at the heart of the scene, its numerals set like rays, with black hands and a red seconds hand. Lower right, the inscription R. Capron can be read. A small stand holds the plaque upright.

Roger Capron, born in 1922, died in 2006, arrived in Vallauris in 1946 and co-founded the Atelier Callis there. In 1952 he bought his own pottery; five years later more than forty craftsmen worked in it. He went on to create the Navettes tiles in 1961 and the Planètes in 1965. Wall clocks in incised and glazed stoneware bearing his signature circulate on the market, in formats close to this one. The signature is recorded by the listing, and the attribution has not been independently confirmed.
